The International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) held its 78th session at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 17 to 28 March 2014. The primary focus of the session was the comprehensive review of the United Nations common system compensation package. In this context, the Commission was presented with reports on:

  • The progress of the three working groups which it had created at its seventy-seventh session to deal with issues relating to the review,

  • Key findings of a global staff survey which was conducted by an external consulting firm hired by its secretariat.
With the guidance received from the Commission, the working groups will continue with the review and will provide additional updates at the seventy-ninth session of the Commission. The Commission, inter alia, also considered a report on gender balance in the United Nations common system, a report on diversity in the United Nations common system, as well as the General Service salary survey methodology for duty stations with less than 30 staff, and the results of the salary survey in Madrid.
